March's Monthly Chatter
Spring will be here on March 20th! During the month of March New Dawn Charter High School is in full force. Students are demonstrating New Dawn’s 3 R’s, Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience, as they power through their academics and internship requirements; our seniors are also preparing for their final year and graduation. We also have some important dates coming up!
In the spirit of Spring, let’s highlight the science department, Ms. Leelam and Mr. Suel. In science, students will be learning about comparative reproduction and transitioning into the genetics portion of biology. Students have been learning about the body systems, disruption of homeostasis and are now learning about genetics and those that determine our traits, physical characteristics and how these characteristics affect populations and the survival of organisms. Students are also creating cladograms and comparing asexual and sexual reproductive strategies of organisms through labs and projects.
Next, our Internship Program is full speed ahead with JP Morgan Chase, who has become a stronger partner with us and have hosted two work-based learning workshops. One workshop focused on building resumes and the other spotlighted the development of interview skills. Professionals from JP Morgan Chase came in and worked with small groups for an inclusive learning session. The students thoroughly enjoyed working with the professionals and found it to be a valuable experience. We will continue our relationship with JP Morgan Chase to focus on building technology skills like word, excel and much more. In addition, the internship program is drumming up new internship sites by hitting the streets to find some enticing, local retail businesses to partner with, like Antler and Woods and The A&W Store on Atlantic Ave-a self-owned and operated designer menswear and antique sports memorabilia store, which fulfills one of our goals: to get out to canvas and get to the grassroots of the neighborhood.
Then we have the Senior Committee, who has been preparing for our January, June and August student graduates. Stayed tuned for more information regarding senior year activities. For more information or to check on your eligibility as a senior, contact Ms. Miller or at firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to check back for more information about the Senior Dinner and Graduation.
Finally, mark your calendars for School SAT Day on Wednesday, March 27th and Senior Picture Day on Thursday, March 28th.
